Management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital has confirmed an assault incident involving a security officer on duty at the facility.
In a press release dated February 20, 2026, signed by Juliana Haruna, Head of Public Relations, the incident occurred on February 18 at about 7:28 p.m. at the Labour Ward. The security guard was reportedly assaulted by an 18-year-old male identified as Gabriel Dimson, who had accompanied his mother and a friend to the hospital.
According to management, the suspect had been directed by the security officer to move to the reception area, as it was against hospital policy for visitors to stand at the entrance of the ward outside approved visiting hours.
The suspect allegedly refused to comply and proceeded to push the officer to the ground and physically assaulted him. The officer reportedly fell unconscious and was immediately attended to by doctors on duty. He remains on admission and is said to be responding to treatment.
The matter was reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Adabraka District Police Command. The suspect has since been arrested, and police are assisting with investigations and subsequent prosecution.
Hospital management stated unequivocally that it will not condone any form of violence against its staff, emphasising the critical role security officers play in enforcing hospital policies designed to protect patients, visitors and healthcare workers.
The hospital further urged the public to cooperate with staff and adhere strictly to established visiting protocols to ensure a safe and orderly healthcare environment.
