Turning Point Foundation Ghana proudly celebrates Madam Naomi Oyoe Ohene Oti, who has been named the winner of the 2025 Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award. Naomi, an Oncology Nurse Specialist and Head of Nursing at the National Radiotherapy, Oncology, and Nuclear Medicine Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, received this prestigious honor at a ceremony in Dubai, UAE, on May 26, 2025.
The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award is a leading international recognition that honors the extraordinary contributions of nurses in leadership, research, innovation, and community impact. Naomi was chosen from more than 100,000 applications across 199 countries, emerging as the overall winner among ten distinguished finalists.
Naomi’s leadership has been transformative for oncology nursing in Ghana. She has advanced specialized oncology nursing training, strengthened patient care pathways, and advocated for equity in cancer outcomes. Through international collaborations, including with the Cross Cancer Institute in Canada, she has developed advanced oncology nursing education and professional development initiatives, empowering nurses nationwide. She also serves on the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC) Member Development Committee, and has contributed to the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) Oncology Nurse Competencies as well as the 2024 IAEA/WHO Guidance on Establishing Comprehensive Cancer Centers.
For her groundbreaking work, Naomi received a $250,000 prize, highlighting the global significance of her contributions to cancer care and nursing leadership.
