Korle-Bu Board Chair Unveils National Plan to End ‘No Bed Syndrome’

The Board of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, has revealed that the government is rolling out a National Integrated Bed Management and Referral Coordination System to address the persistent “no bed syndrome” in hospitals across the country.

According to the Board Chair, Professor Titus Beyuo, the Minister of Health has already set up a team to comprehensively tackle the issue, with work currently at an advanced stage. The initiative, he said, is being finalised and will be supported by an IT platform capable of providing real-time data on bed availability in health facilities nationwide.

Professor Beyuo made the disclosure in Parliament, explaining that the proposed system would provide real-time visibility of bed availability across health facilities, enabling health authorities, including the National Ambulance Service, to swiftly locate appropriate centres and facilitate prompt patient admissions.

He added that work on the intervention had been underway for some time and expressed regret that a recent incident occurred just as the initiative was nearing completion.
