Junior Doctors Suspend Planned Strike Following Government Assurances

The Junior Doctors’ Association of Ghana (JDA-GH) has suspended its planned nationwide withdrawal of services after fresh engagements with the Ministry of Health and other key stakeholders.

The association had earlier announced that its members would embark on an indefinite strike on 7th October, 2025, in protest over months of salary arrears, unexplained removal of some doctors from the government payroll, and the general neglect of welfare concerns. The decision, which was to take effect this week, followed several failed attempts to get the authorities to address their grievances.

According to the JDA-GH, the suspension of the planned strike is a gesture of goodwill aimed at preserving uninterrupted healthcare delivery across the country. The move, they explained, allows government time to fulfill its commitments to resolve the outstanding issues affecting junior doctors.

“The association will continue to monitor progress on these matters,” the statement read. “Should there be any delays or failure to honour the agreed timelines, the JDA-GH will have no option but to reinstate industrial action without notice.”

The association reaffirmed its commitment to the health and wellbeing of Ghanaians but maintained that the welfare and dignity of junior doctors cannot be compromised.

The JDA-GH expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, the public, and the media for their continued support and understanding during this period of dialogue.
