HeFRA commences licensing of CHPS compounds

The Health Facilities Regulatory Authority (HeFRA) has commenced a nationwide inspection and licensing exercise for Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds.

This step, the first of its kind, underscores the government’s commitment to providing free primary healthcare for all citizens, ensuring that every facility delivers safe, quality, and reliable healthcare.

The exercise, which has commenced in the Eastern Region, aims to standardize healthcare delivery across the country. HeFRA’s Acting Registrar, Dr. Winfred Korletey Baah, emphasized that the initiative is part of the agency’s mission to “reset” health regulation, prioritizing patient safety and quality care.

During the inspection, HeFRA teams will assess CHPS compounds’ adherence to mandatory minimum standards for safe and quality healthcare. This initiative is particularly significant as Ghana rolls out its free primary healthcare program.

The Authority maintains that by ensuring that CHPS compounds meet the required standards, the government can guarantee that citizens receive quality healthcare services, ultimately improving health outcomes and reducing mortality rates.
